Our Story

The location of Varanda has been running for roughly twenty years under the name “India Princess” and has gone through a couple of ownership changes throughout its existence.


However, as the concept of “India Princess” began to face many struggles throughout the last few years, it was taken over by an experienced restaurateur: Kulbir Ghai, who is notoriously known as the previous owner of the Star of India restaurant chain (the first major Indian restaurant chain to exist in San Diego).


The ownership and management responsibilities are now shared by three extremely hard-working South Asian men that want to bring their rich heritage and roots to your table.


Our Varanda team embodies a diverse range of capabilities in the restaurant and customer service business as they each have many years of experience in various industries. Most importantly, the team has a thorough knowledge in managing upscale restaurants, project management, culinary skills, and the sourcing of authentic flavor, thus resulting in a culmination of traditionally mouth-watering dishes. We have created our menu items by following old recipes that have made India one of the foodie havens of the world.


With customers in the United States being particular about food safety standards and hygiene, the management team at Varanda ensures that all food items sourced, cooked and served are nothing short of meeting the highest dining standards.
